University College London visits Bavarian International School
A special guest visited BIS: Mustaquem Ali, Senior Liaison & Recruitment Officer at University College London (UCL), one of the top 20 universities in the world. He gave more than 40 students from grades 9-12 an excellent overview of the academic programmes and student life at UCL, as well as some helpful tips on how to write a successful application. “He was amazed by the number and quality of the questions the students asked, and commented that this was one of the most engaged school audiences he has ever encountered,” said Jean Moorhouse, Dean of Students at BIS.
With over 67,000 applications chasing just over 4,000 first year undergraduate places, UCL is one of the most competitive universities in Europe. Currently, BIS graduates at UCL are studying English, Bioprocessing of New Medicines, Physics, Chemistry with Management Studies and Medical Sciences for example. We are also expecting some UCL acceptances for the class of 2022 this year.
“Our students’ applications to UCL and other competitive universities have been so successful as they have taken every opportunity to strengthen their personal as well as academic profiles, undertaking extra reading and research and engaging in online courses, taster classes, Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) activities and internships related to their subjects of choice, which has given them a breadth of understanding which helps them to stand out from other candidates,” so Mrs Moorhouse.
The next big thing to support the University and Career Counseling at BIS: The 11th BIS Careers Day upcoming Friday with fantastic 16 speakers from different industries, e.g. from medicine to start-ups, from SAP or Microsoft to Facebook, from Linde to German Aerospace Center. More to come…
