Welcome to BIS

BIS Alumna Paula Wein plans to spend her gap year working in an HIV hospice in Africa

To gain experience for life and her profession in the future, Paula Wein, BIS 2020, made a conscious decision to challenge herself with an opportunity to grow as an individual and make her gap year truly worthwhile. The newly graduated BIS Alumna will spend a year working in an HIV hospice in the Kingdom of Lesotho (Africa)*.

"Sure, going to provide palliative care in another country at age 18 means risk-taking, says Paula Wein. “But if I have the courage to take this step, I will be ready for any further challenge." Selected for this position* in an application process, Wein also hopes that the gap year will serve as a guide for her future professional career, and medicine or psychology are currently two of her options.  "I'm not afraid, but excited and curious," says Wein, whose project has been delayed to October 2020 due to COVID-19 . As a volunteer she’ll receive food and accommodation on the hospital grounds. Born in Burg Lengenfeld (near Regensburg), Wein spent eight years in Shanghai (China) before relocating to the Haimhausen area and enrolling in BIS. This October, another exciting chapter awaits the young global citizen.

For Paula Wein, the memories of the Bavarian International School are still very fresh. And influential. Learning alongside students from all over the world from very different cultures and within a strong community are all aspects of the BIS experience that she particularly appreciated. "I am very grateful for everything I have received - academically and all the valuable experiences outside the classroom," explains Wein. Paula Wein is another wonderful example of the flourishing personalities and young minds that move the world. And make a difference.

*Due to the Corona virus the program unfortunately had to be postponed. Paula Wein still has the confirmation for this great challenge.
