BIS Diploma scores 2023 almost five points better than worldwide average
Bavarian International School (BIS): 18% of the BIS students scored more than 40 points in the IB DP
Annually, students, parents and teachers look with anticipation at the average final grades. With an average score of 35 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), the 82 students of the Class of 2023 at Bavarian International School (BIS) are almost five points above the global average (30.24). 18,3% of the BIS students graduated with more than 40 points (worldwide: 8,6%), which corresponds to a 1.3 Abitur grade in the German state system.
Other indicators of academic excellence and holistic, personalised education at BIS are the passing rate of 96% (79.3% worldwide) and a percentage of 51% of students who successfully received a Bilingual Diploma (worldwide: 26,8%). Five BIS students scored 42 points, three students scored 43 points, one student achieved 44 points and one student got the top mark of 45 points (one of only 179 worldwide). In addition, BIS has a 100% passing rate in the IB Career-related Programme (IB CP). BIS is the only IB World School in Germany to offer all four programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (PYP, MYP, DP, CP).
“A great honour to work with the future leaders of this planet; they inspired each other every day on their DP journey”, says Loay Malek, IB DP Coordinator of BIS.
In a press release, the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) announced that global average grades at all 5,500+ international schools in 159 countries have returned to pre-pandemic levels. Due to the reduced disruption of student studies by Covid, the IBO now applies the same demanding standards as before Corona. This can also be seen in the BIS results: 35 points in 2020, 36 points in 2021, 37 points in 2022 and now 35 points again in 2023. This score, by the way, corresponds to the Abitur grade of 2.2 in the state system and is thus almost identical to this year's average grade in the Bavarian Abitur (2.24).
“We are proud of our 2023 cohort. They have navigated the restrictions of the covid-years with little on-site learning, engaging with our dedicated teachers and utilising the multiple support structures in place at BIS. They also provide invaluable feedback so we can continue to enhance our learning environment.”, says Dr. Chrissie Sorenson, Head of School and Executive Board of BIS.
The IB Diploma is the ticket to the best universities in the world and Germany. Just recently, the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) was successful in having the German Ministry of Education modify the requirements for IB Diploma recognition, needed to enter German universities - see link. In 2022, 75% of our students were accepted into their first choice university and 93% into one of their top 3.
The students of the Class of 2023 follow very individual paths - university studies, gap year, internships, apprenticeships, working on start-ups, social or charity work, travelling, even leadership training in the desert. The courses they follow are as diverse as our student body - to name just a few examples: Computer Science, Robotics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Economic Psychology, Aviation Meteorology, Filmmaking to more traditional subjects such as Medicine, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Law, Design, International Relations, Marketing or Sport Business...
