Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand

"Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand". That's one of Connie Panagakis' mottos.  The Australian teaches music and drama at Bavarian International School - with joy and passion also digitally in Distance Learning...  Even the young students from grade 1 enjoy home schooling via Google Meet, learn words, melodies and prepare a music and drama performance from home. Above all, they have fun and are happy to see their friends and teacher.

"Learning occurs through active participation, so even when the students are at home, they still need to be moving, singing and expressing themselves with their voices and bodies through practical activities, which is very important. There is inquiry as they explore and investigate creative ideas, and develop musical and dramatic skills", says "Ms Connie", who has been working at BIS since 2015 and previously acquired experience at other international schools and in Melbourne.

Social and emotional interaction is particularly important; the BIS teacher welcomes and says goodbye to all children individually via iPad, encourages discussion and asks about their well-being. "The activities give them a sense of belonging and connecting, as well as collaboration and cooperation which are central to both the performing arts and the IB curriculum." expresses Connie Panagakis. "In distance learning, making sure the students are engaged and challenged while keeping the pace moving is very important. The more they do and the less the teacher talks, the more exciting the learning experience."
