Which steps do I take to apply?

Upload all of the required documents and certificates. We are happy to help you with any questions you might have. To complete your application, please also include the following information:

Copy of student passport or birth certificate
One passport-sized photograph of the student, ideally in jpg format
School transcripts and records from the past two years (in English or German)
Secondary Student Recommendation from current school
Secondary Student Statement – completed by the student
Early Years Statement – to be filled out by the current nursery/kindergarten
Psychological/neurological evaluations for applicants with specific learning needs
Copy of MMR vaccination

How do I transfer the application fee?

Please transfer the non-refundable Application Fee of € 200 to BIS using the following bank details:

The application will be processed as soon as payment is received. Please note that payment of the Application Fee does not guarantee a school place, contact our Admissions Team to find out what places we have available. In the meantime, do not withdraw your child from his/her present school until you have received notification in writing.

For the school year 2023-24, the Bavarian International School (BIS) still has places available for some grades. For many grade levels there are waiting lists.

BIS City Campus (Kindergarten and Primary School): We have spaces available in the Early Childhood Centre 2 (starting at age 5), grades 1, 2, 3 and 4. At BIS Haimhausen Campus (Kindergarten and Primary School): We have spaces in the Early Childhood Centre (starting at age 3), grades 1 and 4.

In the Secondary School at BIS Haimhausen Campus, there are spaces available for grade 7 only.

At an international school such as BIS, it is quite normal for expatriate children in particular to be enrolled during an ongoing school year or to leave the school again in order to seamlessly attend another international school elsewhere in the world. For this reason, there can always be changes in the number of enrolments and available places, even within a school year.

Für das Schuljahr 2023-24 hat die Bavarian International School (BIS) in einigen Klassenstufen noch Plätze frei. Für viele Klassenstufen gibt es allerdings Wartelisten.

BIS City Campus (Kindergarten und Grundschule): Wir haben noch Plätze frei im Early Childhood Centre 2 (ab 5 Jahren), in den Klassenstufen 1, 2, 3 und 4. Am BIS Haimhausen Campus (Kindergarten und Grundschule): Wir haben Plätze frei im Early Childhood Centre (ab 3 Jahren) sowie in den Klassen 1 und 4.

In der Sekundarschule am BIS Haimhausen Campus sind nur Plätze für die Klasse 7 verfügbar.

An einer internationalen Schule wie der BIS ist es ganz normaler Vorgang, dass insbesondere Kinder von Expats auch während eines laufenden Schuljahres angemeldet werden oder die Schule wieder verlassen, um an einem anderen Ort dieser Welt nahtlos eine andere internationale Schule zu besuchen. Aus diesem Grund kann es auch innerhalb eines Schuljahres immer wieder zu Veränderungen bei der Zahl der Anmeldungen und der verfügbaren Plätze kommen.

Enrollment priorities

The Bavarian International School (BIS) was founded first and foremost as an international school serving a globally mobile community of families. These expats (specialists, executives, managers) enrich the Munich region and, through our offer as an IB World School, their non-German-speaking children can seamlessly integrate into a comparable school system.

We ask for your understanding that we have to put applying students on the waiting list if there are no more free spaces available. Furthermore, we cannot make binding statements with regards to timeframes, as changes can occur due to the enrollment priorities listed below.

Children of expat families will be given top priority for enrolment as they have few other options in the area. Next, siblings of existing BIS families will be considered. After this, we will consider local German families who - unlike expats - always have a viable local alternative (i.e. German state school or German private school).

We provide a variety of ways for you to get to know our school, including in-person and virtual options.

Digital learning and technology is a priority at BIS, and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have adapted even further into the future of living digitally. Our on-demand Virtual Visit allows you to see and hear about our school from the people who work, learn, and visit here, every day. Join an in-person or virtual Open Day event, or flip through our Learning Spaces page to see where your child could be going to school. A phone call or personal tour with our Admissions Team means all your questions can be answered immediately.
