Our Learning Principles
Combine the power of the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) with a student population of over 61 nationalities, a caring and passionate international team of educators, and an innovative and inclusive educational practice, and you have the unique experience that is the Bavarian International School. Ever mindful of the diverse needs of our student population and focused on the development of the whole child, we at BIS offer the security of a globally recognised and well established curriculum combined with contemporary, dynamic and cutting-edge practice.
BIS offers the full range of IB programmes, beginning with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) for ages 3-12, through the Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) for ages 13-16, and the Diploma (IBDP) and Career-related (IBCP) Programmes for ages 16-19. Founded in 1968 and with a presence in over 150 countries throughout the world, the mission of the IB Programme has been built on a cornerstone of creating a better world through education. Immersed in a global village of learning partners from all over the world, BIS students develop inter-cultural understanding and respect while also developing the skills and attributes necessary to lead happy, fulfilling and successful lives. BIS graduates take their places in the world with the distinct advantage of having studied, learned, and experienced life in deep partnership with peers from all over the world. Armed with a strong command of English, BIS graduates enter the world of further education and employment well qualified, skilled, and socially and emotionally adept at handling the challenges of the increasingly globalised world in which they will live, learn, serve and work.
Our definition of learning
Learning is a process of growth, development and transformation.
In our BIS community, we believe everyone can learn and succeed when:
- We engage in inquiry, experiences, collaboration and reflection.
- We are challenged, inspired, empowered and can exercise agency.
- We take risks in a supportive culture.
- We make connections and develop conceptual understanding.
