Believe. Inspire. Succeed.
Just three words, powerful words, which embody what we at BIS strive towards every day. From EC1 to grade 12, from admissions to college and career counseling, from back office administrative support to our Board of Trustees and of course parents and students – all play a critical role in creating an environment for our students to believe in themselves, be inspired to stretch further, and ultimately find personal and professional success. Not only do these three words mirror the acronym of the Bavarian International School – BIS, but also stand alone for the attributes we feel are critical for current and future generations of global citizens.
Our first BeInSpired event, the brainchild of alumni Katie Long and Leo Peruzzi (2009), was very well received, so much so, that next year, we will schedule the event during the school day to allow more students to attend. Attendants found nuggets in each of the inspiring and diverse talks held by Henry Evans, Chanelle Baker, Phill Handy, Gela Allmann, Stuart Kilner and Mai-Thi Nguyen-Kim.
Our first BISpreneurs competition directly followed the talks, allowing three student groups to present their new entrepreneurial concepts within a 5-8 minute time frame and in front of a panel of judges including our own Dr. Skene, Dr. Otero of the EU Business School and Phill Handy of UnternehmerTUM's MakerSpace.
Grade 10 student Clara Salih impressed the judges to such a degree, that on top of the 1st prize which included 25 hours of instruction and coaching, Clara received a 3-month membership at MakerSpace in order to create a prototype of her idea. Both 2nd and 3rd place groups were also awarded 15 and 5 hours of instruction and coaching respectively. Congratulations to all courageous participants!
Following BeInSpired, the 25th anniversary celebration continued in the Good ol' Gym, with opening remarks by the French General Consul Jean-Claude Brunet, 1st Mayor of Haimhausen Peter Felbermeier, and local Member of Parliament Bernhard Seidenath. Attendees enjoyed music by K-Room (student band), WoodBludZ (alumni band) and the Band of Brothers (teacher band), a wonderful buffet sponsored by SWAGAT restaurant, and entertainment by the Nikita Dance Crew, which then motivated others to dance as well.
